Ottawa under fire to rein in immigration consultants

Years of disarray in the Immigration Consultants of Canada Regulatory Council — the organization set up to regulate the immigration consultancy industry — has resulted in a parliamentary committee recommending it be scrapped.

The report recommends that in its place, the federal government should establish a new self-regulating agency to oversee immigration consultants. The self-regulating body is especially being criticized for failing to ensure only licensed immigration consultants provide paid consultancy work. This is not a new problem for Ottawa.
