Updated: Poitras resigns from inquiry into murdered, missing Indigenous women

Marilyn Poitras, one of five commissioners on the national inquiry into missing and murdered Indigenous women, is stepping down on July 15, two months before public hearings are to begin in Thunder Bay, Ont.

In a two-paragraph resignation letter to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on July 10, Poitras wrote, “It is clear to me that I am unable to perform my duties as a commissioner with the process in its current structure."
