Sexual assault rates remain steady, while other crimes see decline, survey says

A Statistics Canada study shows self-reported sexual assault rates have remained the same, despite a decrease in other types of violent and non-violent crime.

Holly Johnson, University of OttawaThe data comes from the General Social Survey (GSS) on Victimization done in 2014 and shows that 22 instances of sexual assault were reported for every 1,000 Canadians aged 15 and older. According to the survey, other crimes such as rates of robbery and physical assault declined by 39 per cent and 35 per cent, respectively.
