Padgett joins Rowand LLP as associate

Rowand LLP has announced that Neil Padgett has joined the firm as an associate lawyer practising in patent and trademark prosecution.

Padgett has a master's degree in computer science and engineering from the University of Washington, a juris doctor from the University of Toronto and practical industry experience with DND and Microsoft.

His practice includes all aspects of intellectual property law with a particular focus on preparing and prosecuting patent applications for computer-implemented inventions. He has experience prosecuting applications in Canada and the United States as well as directing prosecution of applications in European and Asian jurisdictions.

Some of the fields and technologies Padgett has worked with include online advertising, natural language processing, semiconductor packaging, control systems, graphics hardware, online gaming and various other data processing innovations and mechanical devices.

He is qualified as a lawyer in both Canada and the United States.

Prior to commencing a legal career, Neil gained extensive industrial experience in software engineering including with a major multinational computer company in Washington state and with a prominent open source software vendor.

His industrial experience spans a variety of technology areas including distributed systems, cloud computing and various data storage related technologies. Through his experience, Padgett brings to the practice of law a deep technical expertise coupled with a practical understanding of product development.
