McCarthy Tétrault partner Barry Sookman has been appointed to the Macdonald-Laurier Institute (MLI) advisory council.

The MLI is Canada’s most prominent public policy think tank, based in Ottawa. Its mission is to improve public policy throughout Canada by providing citizens and politicians with independent research and commentary.

Protecting intellectual property rights is one of the institute’s major priorities. Sookman, a member of McCarthy's technology group, will play an even more prominent role in shaping Canada’s IP scene with this new appointment.

Brian Lee Crowley, MLI’s managing director, described Sookman as “one of the country's most respected legal minds.”

Sookman is the former co-chair of the firm’s technology law group and was the head of the firm’s IP group. He is an adjunct professor of IP law at Osgoode Hall.
