Quebec's top court emphasizes deadlines in release of three appeal decisions

Quebec’s Court of Appeal released a trilogy of cases on Sept. 13 that reset the rules for plaintiffs applying to revive cases dismissed before trial when their lawyers missed an important deadline.

The three appeals — Syndicat de copropriété du 8980 au 8994 Croissant du Louvre v. Habitations Signature Inc. 2017 QCCA 1272; Heaslip v. McDonald 2017 QCCA 1273; and Villanueva v. Pilotte 2017 QCCA 1274 — dealt with various plaintiffs all caught by the combined application of articles 173 and 177 of Quebec’s Code of Civil Procedure....
