The Law Society of Upper Canada approves motion to change name

Ontario’s law society will be the Law Society of Upper Canada no longer as benchers voted on Sept. 28 to change the organization’s name.

Julian Falconer, Falconers LLPA motion to drop “Upper Canada” from the name and vote on a new title at Convocation in November was passed 38-11. Some benchers opposed the move, citing the name’s history and claiming this change is merely window dressing to hide a wider range of exclusivity problems at the law society.
