The province of British Columbia has narrowed down the list of competitors who are in running to build new $150 million law court building in Abbotsford.

According to the province, once the new 14-room facility is open, it will double the capacity of the current courthouse and offer room for expansion. There will be three Supreme Court law courts, eight provincial court courtrooms and three judicial conference rooms. It will also include space for justice-sector programs, such as the B.C. Prosecution Service, community corrections and a Justice Access Centre.

Expected to be open in 2021, the project is being financed as a public-private partnership (P3) with a 30-year contract. The winning bid is expected to be announced in March 2018, and construction is scheduled to begin later that year.

The three candidates in the running to win the project are: CBB Partnerships; EllisDon Infrastructure Justice; and Plenary PCL Justice.
