Lawyers among appointees to OSC committee

Thursday, November 02, 2017 @ 1:22 PM | By Carolyn Gruske

The Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) named a number of legal practitioners among the members of its small and medium enterprise committee (SMEC).

The SMEC advises OSC staff on issues related to small and medium enterprises (SMEs) such as the development of policies and practices, regulatory approaches to capital raising in the exempt market (including the development of the OSC's enhanced compliance program) and the impact of new prospectus exemptions on SMEs.

Thirteen people will sit on the committee, including five lawyers: Sherri Altshuler, a partner with Aird & Berlis LLP, Michael Hanley, a partner with Torkin Manes LLP, Andrea Johnson, a partner with Dentons, Mark Trachuk, a partner with Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP and Robert Trager, co-founder and president of Vault Mortgage Corporation (and a former member of Borden Ladner Gervais LLP).

The SMEC meets approximately four times per year, with members serving a one-year term.
