MacDonald appointed to Newfoundland and Labrador bench

Alexander (Sandy) MacDonald, a partner with Cox & Palmer has been named as a judge of the Trial Division of the Supreme Court of Newfoundland and Labrador in St. John’s.

A graduate of Dalhousie University’ law school, Justice MacDonald has been a member of Halley, Hickman and Hunt and its successor firms throughout his entire 30-year-plus career.

In describing his legal experience, the Department of Justice Canada said his work has “followed the transformation of the Newfoundland and Labrador economy. He has acted as counsel to mining and offshore oil projects and to various iterations of the Lower Churchill hydro project. Justice MacDonald has written and presented extensively on matters related to the legal aspects of the offshore oil and gas industry.” Additionally, he maintained an active litigation practice.
