Bélanger put forward for commissioner of lobbying

The prime minister’s office announced that Nancy Bélanger is its nominee for the role of commissioner of lobbying.
Bélanger has been a member of the public service since 1993. She is currently serving as the deputy commissioner, legal services and public affairs, with the Office of the Information Commissioner of Canada.
She began her career in government as a law clerk with the Federal Court of Canada before moving to more senior positions, including executive officer to the chief justice of the Federal Court, senior legal adviser with the Immigration and Refugee Board, general counsel at the Office of the Conflict of Interest and Ethics Commissioner, and general counsel and director of legal services for the Office of the Information Commissioner. She is fluently bilingual.
“Nancy Bélanger is an excellent candidate for the role of commissioner of lobbying. She has an extensive legal background, proven leadership experience, and an exemplary commitment to public service. I have no doubt that Ms. Bélanger will do an outstanding job on delivering the mandate of the Office of the Commissioner of Lobbying Canada,” said Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
The appointment, which lasts for seven years, is made by the Governor in Council after consultation with the leader of each recognized party in the Senate and House of Commons and approval by resolution of both Houses of Parliament.
