Douglas (Doug) Parker, a lawyer and technology executive, is the new president and CEO of Quarterhill Inc.

Based in Ottawa, Quarterhill is an investment holding company focused on acquiring Internet of Things (IoT) businesses.

Parker, who has a law degree from Queen’s University along with an executive master of business administration from Western University, formerly held a number of positions at Open Text Corp. including senior vice-president of corporate development, general counsel and assistant secretary. He also worked as associate general counsel of Nortel Networks Corp.

“Doug is a seasoned executive with solid international credentials in buying and integrating companies in a similar environment to Quarterhill,” said Quarterhill executive chair Jim Skippen.

“His deep industry knowledge, energy, experience and reputation will enable Quarterhill to continue its growth and development as a diversified investment holding company focusing on investments in the Internet of Things, enterprise software and other attractive technology spaces.

“After an extensive search process, the board believes Doug is the best candidate to lead us into the future. We expect Quarterhill, with Doug's leadership, to continue to make exciting company acquisitions in the future which build upon the acquisitions already made.”

Parker will work out of the company’s Toronto office. He is expected to join Quarterhill’s board of directors in 2018.
