‘Ambiguity’ of Manitoba’s limitations act could be focus of securities appeal, says lawyer

A probe of Manitoba’s ambiguous limitations legislation will be part of an upcoming appeal by a charity boss accusing the province’s securities commission of dragging its feet in alleging he wronged investors.

This is the sentiment of one lawyer who weighed in on Manitoba’s unique Limitations of Actions Act (LAA), which played a major part in Neufeld v. Manitoba Securities Commission 2017 MBCA 107, an appeal involving fundraising, the alleged mishandling of money and the passage of time.
