Age for dependent children increased under Canada’s immigration programs

The federal government has restored the age for dependent children to under 22 from under 19 for immigration purposes, which means that applicants for permanent residence to Canada can once again include their dependent children who are young adults in any of Canada’s immigration programs.

Those programs include family sponsorship, Express Entry, business immigration, caregiver or refugee applicants. The change affects all new applications received on or after Oct. 24, 2017.
