Stockwoods names new managing partner

Luisa Ritacca is now the managing partner at Stockwoods LLP.

Ritacca, who has been with the Toronto-based boutique litigation firm since 2001, will maintain her civil and administrative practice in addition to her new duties. She also has expertise in commercial litigation, libel and slander, professional regulation and advertising law.

Some of her clients have included the Ontario Racing Commission, the College of Nurses of Ontario, the College of Opticians of Ontario, the Board of Drugless Therapy — Naturopathy and the College of Veterinarians of Ontario.

Ritacca has often appeared before Advertising Standards Canada on behalf of clients involved in advertising disputes. She has also sat as an adjudicator for that organization.

Ritacca was appointed as a court monitor in the administration of two pan-Canadian settlements involving the tainted blood scandal, as well as the settlement involving water contamination in Walkerton, Ont. She has been involved in a number of  judicial inquiries, including serving as co-counsel for the Office of the Chief Coroner in the Inquiry into Pediatric Forensic Pathology (the Goudge Inquiry).

She is an adjunct professor for the trial practice course at Osgoode Hall and is a team leader for the intensive trial advocacy program.

Ritacca succeeds Stockwoods partner Paul Le Vay who will continue his securities litigation, corporate and commercial litigation, professional negligence, employment law and professional regulation and discipline practice.
