McCarthy Tétrault associate awarded Meritorious Service Medal

Governor General Julie Payette has awarded the Meritorious Service Medal to Adam Goldenberg for his efforts to ensure remote First Nations communities are served by qualified teachers.

Goldenberg is a Toronto-based associate in McCarthy Tétrault LLP’s litigation group, where he performs trial and appellate advocacy in commercial disputes, class actions and public law matters, as well as in criminal and regulatory proceedings.

The work that earned him the medal, however, was acting as co-founder and member of the board of directors of Teach For Canada, a non-profit organization that works with northern First Nations communities to recruit, prepare and support teachers.

Since 2015, over 100 teachers have been placed in on-reserve schools due to the efforts of Teach for Canada.

The Meritorious Service Medal recognizes individuals who have made remarkable contributions in many different fields of endeavour, who inspire others and who share a common goal of making a positive difference.
