Toronto-based Gilbert’s LLP has welcomed two new partners and a new associate.

The partners are Omar Nassif and Kevin Shipley. Patricia Brooks is the associate.

Nassif is a patent prosecutor with over 25 years of experience. He formerly worked at an international law firm that specialized in intellectual property (IP), where he represented clients in the life science, pharmaceutical, biologics, medical device, water treatment, and oil and gas industries. His practice involved original patent drafting, domestic and international patent prosecution, patent portfolio management and patent litigation support. Nassif has expertise in the regulatory aspects of the pharmaceutical industry, IP licensing and IP due diligence.

Shipley came to Gilbert’s from an IP boutique firm. He is a mechanical engineer and a patent agent in addition to being a lawyer. Shipley is experienced in patent prosecution, freedom-to-operate analysis and new product launch and clearance projects. He will work as part of the firm’s prosecution group, advising clients regarding domestic and international IP strategy.

Along with her law degree, Brooks holds a doctorate in neurophysiology, and did post-doctorate research investigating molecular and cellular changes in neurodegenerative diseases. She worked at an international law firm before joining Gilbert’s, where she assisted in matters relating to patent, trademark, copyright and advertising law.

Gilbert’s focuses on clients involved in the life sciences, technology, fashion, media and communications and energy and natural resources sectors.
