Gowling WLG has created a new practice group dedicated to serving clients in Nunavut, the Northwest Territories, Yukon and the northern regions of many provinces.

Dubbed Canada North, the group contains lawyers who specialize in a wide variety of areas, including corporate commercial, environmental and mining, Indigenous, procurement and energy law.

One of the goals of the group is to offer educational opportunities through webinars and client seminars. The first webinar will be on the topic of recent Supreme Court of Canada decisions concerning Indigenous rights and their effects on Canada’s North.

“From the daily struggles of conducting business in remote regions to navigating complex regulatory regimes unlike any others in Canada, those hoping to succeed in Canada’s North require legal counsel with on-the-ground capabilities and sophisticated technical, cultural and sociopolitical expertise,” said Adam Chamberlain, a Toronto-based Gowling WLG partner and Canada North team member.

“By forming Canada North, we’re harnessing resources and talent from across the firm’s established practices to deliver tailored, informed solutions to clients across a broad range of sectors,” said Calgary partner and team member Richard Grant
