Court’s cost ruling sends message to Manitoba child care agencies, lawyer says

Manitoba’s child welfare agencies must be better at “providing timely disclosure” to parents in apprehension cases, says a lawyer in the wake of an appeal involving court costs handed to a homeless dad whose kids were taken away.

Nisichawayashihk Cree Nation Family v. J.G. 2018 MBCA 1, decided earlier this month, involved two agencies: the Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation Family and Community Services (NCN) and the Child and Family Services All Nations Coordinated Response Network (ANCR).
