Are immediate motor vehicle dealer suspensions warranted?

The Ontario Motor Vehicle Industry Council (OMVIC), the provincial regulator of vehicle sales, issued three immediate suspensions in 2017.

Under the Motor Vehicle Dealer Act (MVDA), immediate suspensions are issued only when the registrar believes it is in the public interest to do so. According to OMVIC, this means that the dealer’s conduct may place the car-buying public at risk. In conjunction with the immediate suspension, OMVIC also issues a “Proposal to Revoke Registration” to the dealership as well as to the associated salespeople.
