Dentons adds energy group partner for Calgary office

Dentons LLP announced that Hazel Saffery has joined the firm as a partner in the energy group.

Based in Calgary, Saffery advises clients on energy acquisitions and divestitures, and negotiates and drafts corporate transactions, as well as purchase/sale agreements for oil and gas assets, and power (including renewables) assets. She has a wide breadth of experience and advises on matters ranging from joint venture, partnership and operational agreements, to technical and land use agreements.

In her regulatory practice, Saffery advises commercial clients on transactional and operational implications of the regulatory processes, as well as advising concerned stakeholders and landowners.

In 2014, Saffery was seconded to a mid-sized public company, where she gained practical experience that challenged her to focus on clients’ business goals and find solutions to help her clients succeed. This valuable perspective is something that she brings to all her files.

“We are delighted to welcome Hazel to Dentons in our accomplished energy team,” said Don Leitch, managing partner of Dentons’ Calgary office. “Hazel’s wealth of knowledge and extensive experience, coupled with her outstanding reputation in the Calgary legal market, ideally positions her to support our colleagues and clients, locally, nationally and globally.”

Saffery earned a bachelor of science from Trinity Western University in 2003, and a bachelor of laws from the University of Manitoba in 2008. She was called to the Alberta bar in 2009.
