Accountability, safety guide N.L. Appeal Court in case of pot-carrying oil worker

“Individual accountability” and workplace safety sit at the heart of an East Coast appeal decision involving an offshore oil worker fired after being found with pot in his pocket.

In Terra Nova Employers’ Organization v. Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union, Local 2121 2018 NLCA 7, the worker’s former employer was appealing a lower court ruling that overturned an arbitrator’s quashing of a union grievance over the employee’s dismissal.
