Judge named for new position in Ontario

Karen D.M. Leef has been appointed as a judge of the Ontario Superior Court of Justice and a member of the Family Court in Durham.

Justice Leef is a partner with Ottawa-based Pender & Leef where she specialized in family law and child protection. She has also been an active panel lawyer for Legal Aid Ontario throughout her career, as well a panel lawyer with the Office of the Children’s Lawyer for 14 years.

Justice Leef has served on a number of legal committees including the Ottawa Superior Court of Justice Child and Family Services Act (CFSA) bench and bar subcommittee. She is also the past president of the Ottawa CFSA Defence Counsel Association.

She will preside in a newly created position.
