As litigators, we spend our lives in courtrooms, official examiners’ offices and mediation boardrooms. To those of us who are experienced, these settings are second nature. Clients often ask me when I'm walking into court on their case if I am nervous. They are often surprised when I tell them I'm not.

Similarly, as I head out in the morning, for example, to defend a lawyer at a discipline proceeding, my wife will...
