Judge elevated to Alberta Court of Appeal

Justice Ritu Khullar is moving from the Court of Queen’s Bench of Alberta to the Court of Appeal of Alberta in Edmonton.

Justice Khullar began her legal career clerking at the province’s Court of Appeal and the Court of Queen’s Bench. She was a member of Chivers Carpenter Lawyers where she practised labour and employment, privacy, administrative, human rights and constitutional law, and served as managing partner for eight years. Justice Khullar has appeared before numerous administrative tribunals and every level of court in Canada including the Supreme Court of Canada.

Justice Khullar has been a frequent lecturer at the University of Alberta and has served on numerous committees of the Canadian Bar Association. She was a member of the Federal Electoral Boundaries Commission for Alberta and chaired Alberta’s Advisory Panel on Coal Communities.

She replaces Justice Sheila J. Greckol, who elected to become a supernumerary judge effective Jan. 1, 2018.
