‘Good character’ requirement motion may be heated topic at Law Society of Ontario’s annual meeting

A motion regarding the “good character” requirement contained in the Law Society Act has some lawyers questioning how far the Law Society of Ontario (LSO) will go to support transparency and inclusivity.

The motion, to be considered at the law society’s Annual General Meeting on May 9, has over 80 signatures in support of the recommendation that the LSO review its process for assessing a candidate’s good character. The motion calls for the law society to consider transparency and potential discriminatory barriers.
