Borden Ladner Gervais names new CEO

Come summer, there will be a new national managing partner and CEO at Borden Ladner Gervais LLP (BLG).

As of July 1, 2018, John G. Murphy will take over those responsibilities, succeeding Sean Weir, who held those roles for 18 years. Weir will become vice-chair of BLG, where he will be focused on strategic firm priorities, international initiatives and strengthening client relationships.

Murphy has worked his entire legal career at BLG. He has served on its partnership board, on the national management committee and held the title of managing partner of the Montreal office. 

 “After a rigorous and concerted succession planning process, the partnership board has selected a strong leader with a proven track record to succeed our long-standing NMP and CEO, Sean Weir,” said Alex De Zordo, chair of BLG’s partnership board. 

John Murphy will lead us into the future with vigour, enthusiasm and continued commitment to top talent and gold standard service to maintain our edge in an increasingly competitive legal market.”

According to Muphy, he will continue to prioritize the same goals he has always maintained. 

“My focus continues to be on client service, collaboration and building a forward-looking team across BLG’s five offices. I will continue to drive these priorities in line with our commitment to deliver value to our clients,” he said.
