R. v. Comeau decision bad news for Canadian wine industry

The Supreme Court of Canada`s recent decision (R. v. Comeau 2018 SCC 15) on the constitutionality of restrictions on interprovincial transport of wine, beer and spirits upholds the current system of provincial monopolies and is a blow to the #FreeMyGrapes movement as it maintains the restrictions in place on the ability of wineries to ship their wine directly to consumers.

For producers and consumers of Canadian wine, the decision reinforces the need to find a political solution to the problem of restricting trade across provinces....
