Two lawyers were sworn in to serve as deputy judges in the small claims court in the eastern region of Ontario.

The two new deputy judges are Ted Masters and Claudine Girault.

Girault is retired federal prosecutor who worked with the Public Prosecution Service for over 20 years. She has appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice and the Superior Court of Justice and spent time as the federal Crown handling all matters in the mental health court.

Masters is a counsel with Mann Law LLP specializing in personal injury claims, specifically car accidents, medical negligence and denied disability. A trained mediator, he also handled intellectual property litigation, commercial disputes and Aboriginal rights and land claims cases.

Justice Charles T. Hackland, who oversees the small claims courts in the east region, performed the ceremony while Ian Stauffer, the administrative deputy judge, assisted and placed the sashes on the new deputy judges.
