Two new judges for Nunavut but more needed, lawyer says

Two new judges for Nunavut’s strained court system will “make a difference,” but more are still needed “to make the system work properly,” says a lawyer regularly in the remote northern territory.

On June 22, the federal Department of Justice announced the appointments of Justices Susan Charlesworth and Christian Lyons, both of whom have years of experience as lawyers practising in the trenches of Nunavut’s challenged justice system.

Their appointments bring Nunavut’s complement of judges to six.
