Ontario employers should prepare now for Bill 148 changes to on-call work regulations

As many employers are now aware, Bill 148, (Fair Workplaces, Better Jobs Act, 2017), received royal assent and is now law. Bill 148 made significant changes to the Employment Standards Act, 2000 (ESA).

Bill 148 introduced new provisions regarding scheduling, including “on-call” work, changes to scheduled shifts and shift cancellation.
