As legal cannabis looms, Ottawa approves first roadside oral fluid drug screening equipment

With cannabis legalization fast approaching, Ottawa has approved for the first time roadside oral fluid drug screening equipment for use by the RCMP and provincial police forces in enforcing the Criminal Code’s prohibition of drug-impaired driving.

Justice Minister Jody Wilson-Raybould announced Aug. 27 that by ministerial order she has listed as “approved drug screening equipment” the Dräger DrugTest 5000 STK-CA (collection kit), which is to be used with the Dräger DrugTest 5000 (reader), to test for THC and cocaine.
