Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP announced that partner Sylvain Lussier has been appointed to the Superior Court of Quebec.

Lussier is widely recognized as one of the most accomplished commercial and civil litigators in Quebec. He represented clients before various administrative tribunals, the Quebec Superior Court and Court of Appeal, the Federal Court and the Supreme Court of Canada.

His practice interests were both broad and deep in areas such as public law, constitutional law, Aboriginal law and environmental and municipal law. Notably Lussier represented the Attorney General of Canada at the Gomery Commission.

His interests in civil liberties took many forms including contributing to a World Bank mission to Cameroon and advocacy with the Montreal bar Committee on Civil Justice, the Canadian bar’s constitutional law and civil liberties section and as a special advocate under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act. Lussier has also been an outstanding contributor to the legal profession.

“Sylvain has been an exceptional partner over the last 12 years and has contributed his energy, passion and intellect to our national litigation practice and to our local office, in equal measure,” said Sandra Abitan, Montreal office managing partner. “We are delighted that Sylvain has been appointed to the bench as his experience over many decades will make him an exemplary judge on the Superior Court.”
