Spraggs named chair of B.C. Law Institute’s board

Thomas Spraggs of Spraggs & Co. Law Corporation of Coquitlam, B.C., has been named board chair of the British Columbia Law Institute (BCLI).

The prestigious nomination entrusts Spraggs to lead the non-profit’s current and future projects. BCLI seeks to lead in law reform by conducting scholarly research, as well as informing and educating members of law reform.

Spraggs has been a member of the board of directors since his 2012 appointment by the Ministry of the Attorney General.

“It’s an honour to be appointed as this year’s board chair of BCLI,” said Spraggs“I look forward to working with the staff and board as BCLI and [Canadian Centre for Elder Law] CCEL continue their important work in legal research and law reform.”

Spraggs & Co. Law Corporation has been a fixture in B.C.’s Lower Mainland for over 40 years. Spraggs took over the family-owned business in 2005 to become the sole owner and operator. The firm has experienced significant growth and recognition over the last several years and received the Canadian Bar Association’s 2016 Innovative Workplace Award.

Spraggs’ commitment to growth and new ideas is indicative of his capability to lead BCLI’s board of directors.

Spraggs is an active member of the community. He has served as the vice-chair of Douglas College and currently co-chairs the Civil Litigation Tri-Cities/New Westminster section of the Canadian Bar Association.

Since 1997, BCLI has promoted the clarification and simplification of the law, its adaptation to modern social needs and aim to improve the administration of justice and respect for the rule of law. BCLI also promotes and delivers scholarly legal research.
