Miller Thomson announced that Gib van Ert, former executive legal officer for the Supreme Court of Canada, has joined the firm as a partner in the litigation group, practising civil and public law litigation from offices in British Columbia and Ontario.

As executive legal officer, van Ert was chief adviser to two successive Chief Justices, Beverley McLachlin, and Richard Wagner, on matters concerning the Supreme Court, the Canadian Judicial Council and the National Judicial Institute.

Prior to serving Canada’s highest court, he practised at a litigation boutique firm where he was counsel on cases involving commercial disputes, environmental claims, professional negligence and estate litigation.
