Three new associates added to Robins Appleby team

Robins Appleby LLP announced that three associates have joined the Toronto firm, Noah Ciglen, Amanda Laren and Joseph Jamil.

Ciglen is an associate in our real estate group where he advises clients on all aspects of real estate law, including development, social and affordable housing, commercial sales and acquisitions, leasing and financing.

Before joining Robins Appleby as an associate, Ciglen worked as both a summer student and an articling student at the firm. As a student, he assisted in all of the firm’s practice areas focusing specifically on commercial real estate and commercial litigation.

Ciglen received his juris doctor from Osgoode Hall Law School and was called to the Ontario bar in 2018. During his time at Osgoode, Ciglen was involved in a diverse number of extracurricular activities and completed a semester abroad at the University of Amsterdam. Upon graduation, he was a recipient of the Honourable F.H. Barlow Scholarship for excellence in business law.

Laren will work with the firm’s tax and estate planning group. She advises clients on all areas of taxation law, focusing on tax planning for family-owned and closely held businesses, including the tax implications of corporate transactions, estate and family business succession planning, and post-mortem planning.

Before joining Robins Appleby, Laren practised tax law at a large national law firm, where she had a general tax practice, focused on the tax implications of mergers and acquisitions, corporate reorganizations and capital markets transactions, as well as executive compensation.

Laren was called to the Ontario bar in 2014. She received her juris doctor from Osgoode Hall in 2013. She earned a master’s in economics in 2010 and a BSc in mathematics in 2009, both from the University of Western Ontario. Laren completed the CPA three-year In-Depth Tax Course in 2017.

Jamil joined the firm’s litigation group where he practises in the area of commercial litigation. Prior to joining Robins Appleby LLP, he articled at a mid-sized law firm in Toronto where he gained experience in civil and commercial litigation, real estate, estate planning and corporate transactions.

Jamil received his juris doctor from the University of Ottawa and was called to the Ontario bar in 2018. While in law school, he specialized in dispute resolution and professionalism where he gained practical experience in dispute resolution processes and professionalism, including professional ethics and written and oral advocacy.

During law school, Jamil spent a summer working at the Ontario Securities Commission in the Corporate Finance branch. Prior to commencing his legal career, he worked for a global wealth management and investment company in the areas of accounting and regulatory compliance.
