Four new partners at Hicks Morley

Hicks Morley announced that four lawyers have joined the firm’s partnership, Thomas Agnew, Kathryn Meehan, Siobhan O’Brien and Nadine Zacks.

Agnew is a labour and employment lawyer in the firm’s Toronto office, advising public and private sector employers on a wide range of human resources issues. He frequently acts as lead negotiator in collective agreement negotiations, and regularly appears as counsel for employers in courts and tribunals throughout Ontario and in rights and interest arbitrations. In addition to arbitration and tribunal litigation, he appears as counsel for employers in court with a particular focus on wrongful dismissal defence litigation.

As a labour and employment lawyer practising out of the Waterloo, Ont., office, Meehan represents clients before the courts and administrative tribunals, including the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario, the Workplace Safety and Insurance Appeals Tribunal and the Ontario Labour Relations Board.

She practises in all areas of labour and employment law, advising a wide variety of public and private sector employers. She also works with clients to ensure best practices, delivers training and provides advice on a proactive basis before it becomes necessary to exercise her advocacy skills.

O’Brien practises out of the firm’s Ottawa office. She appears as counsel in labour and employment disputes before the Human Rights Tribunal, the courts, grievance arbitrators and the Ontario Labour Relations Board. She also participates in the employment and labour law aspects of business transactions, including mergers and acquisitions and business restructurings and has extensive experience in strategic collective bargaining and strike management.

O’Brien is a frequent guest speaker at employment and human resources law events and speaks on a variety of employment issues affecting the workplace. Since 2017, she has been the moderator of the employment panel for the County of Carleton Law Association’s Annual Civil Litigation Conference and is a current member of the planning committee for the conference.

Zacks works out of the Toronto office. She provides advice and representation to public and private sector employers on a wide range of labour and employment issues including grievance arbitrations, wrongful dismissals, employment standards, employment contracts, human rights and accommodation and occupational health and safety.

She regularly appears before tribunals, arbitrators, mediators and courts to advocate for her clients.
