A battle is brewing over craft beer in Alberta.

The provincial government gave notice July 16 it intended to appeal a recent decision by Court of Queen’s Bench Justice Gillian Marriott that Alberta’s support of craft brewers was unconstitutional. Under provincial law, all liquor passes through the Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission (AGLC) before it is sold by retailers, and the agency puts a mark-up on all sales.
