Alberta Court of Appeal finds impaired driving sentence 'demonstrably unfit'

The Alberta Court of Appeal has provided a primer on sentencing principles in finding the sentence of a motorist found guilty of impaired driving causing bodily harm and leaving the scene of an accident “demonstrably unfit."

"The significance of the victim’s injuries, the horrendous driving pattern and the offender’s lengthy flight from the scene compelled a sterner sentence,” the court ruled in R. v. Gejdos 2017 ABCA 227.
