The Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) announced on Nov. 25 that Elizabeth Witmer has been reappointed for a fourth term as chair of the board of directors. First appointed in 2012, Witmer will continue to serve as chair through Dec. 31, 2021.

According to a press release from the board, through Witmer’s leadership, guidance and oversight, the WSIB has been able to eliminate a historic unfunded liability, reduce the average premium rate by almost 50 per cent and introduce a new Health and Safety Excellence program.

Most recently, the release states, Witmer has championed support for businesses through the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic and helped to ensure the WSIB did not lose a single day of service to Ontarians.

Witmer has received numerous honours including the Queen’s Golden and Diamond Jubilee Medals, the Social Work Doctors’ Award and most recently, the Ontario General Contractors Association Doug Chalmers Award for Safety.
