There is a new face heading General Motors Canada’s in-house counsel department.

Jim Williams was appointed as vice-president, lead counsel for GM Canada. As part of his duties, he will also sit on GM Canada’s executive committee and its board of directors.

He has been with General Motors for 29 years, and worked in its litigation practice and as counsel for the sales and marketing organization.

Williams will report to to Jeff Taylor, deputy general counsel and chief compliance officer and indirectly to Travis Hester, GM Canada president and managing director.

He takes over the role from Peter Cho, who was named as vice-president, lead counsel for GM Korea.

“I’d like to thank Peter for his many contributions and leadership at GM Canada and wish him well in his new role in Korea,” said Hester.

“I’m also pleased to welcome Jim to the GM Canada team. His rich experience with General Motors will be valuable as we continue to build GM Canada’s leadership in sales, manufacturing and automotive innovation.”
