How Ontario regulates the prevention and containment of forest fires

Forest fires in Northern Ontario have been cause for alarm this past month, with residents in multiple communities being forced to evacuate their homes. The Parry Sound and Sudbury Districts have been particularly affected by “Parry Sound 33,” which remained uncontrolled for over two weeks and has burned over 100 square kilometres since July 18, 2018. Parry Sound 33 is now under control but continues to span 11,362 hectares approximately five kilometres west of Highway 69.
