Quentin Markin returned his practice in Stikeman Elliott’s Sydney office to continue to service and grow the firm’s international initiatives in Australasia.

Stikeman Elliott is the only Canadian law firm with an office in Australia, and the Sydney office is the hub of its Asia Pacific practice and services the firm’s clients in Australia, New Zealand and Asia.

Markin previously practised in the firm’s Sydney office (2011-2016) before joining its Vancouver office (2016-2018). He will continue his practice in the region and will have the ability to provide clients access to a wide knowledge of the Australasian and Asian markets as well as a broad network of legal and financial contacts.

Markin, as co-head of the global mining group, will continue to provide a high level of legal services to the firm’s Canadian and international mining clients, as well as support the global mining group’s efforts in the region.

Markin will continue acting for issuers and brokers in public offerings and in mining joint ventures, royalties and project acquisitions, as well as global private placements, and in transactions involving interlisted companies, particularly the ASX in Australia, the AIM Market in London and the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. In addition, he will continue focusing on corporate finance and merger and acquisition transactions for public companies, with a focus on interjurisdictional transactions in the mining sector.

Markin has a long track record of success in partnering with clients involved in complex projects that span across multiple jurisdictions and this move establishes him as the best person for this role. He is also often asked to provide an expert opinion regarding the mining industry.

This move by Markin is part of the firm’s ongoing development of its presence in Asia-Pacific and commitment to having deep roots in the region to service clients better.

“We are delighted that Quentin has taken on this significant role. Quentin’s ability to provide strategic advice to clients in the Australia and Asia-Pacific markets comes from an in-depth understanding of the region and our clients’ businesses, and a passion for supporting them on all fronts. I’m certain our clients doing business in the region will benefit tremendously from this move,” said Marc Barbeau, chair of Stikeman Elliott.
