Gowling WLG announced that Mark Platteel has joined the firm as a partner in its real estate and financial services department and infrastructure and construction group in Toronto.

The firm’s press release states that Platteel is a leader in the Canadian public-private partnerships (P3s) sector and has experience advising clients across the full lifecycle of development projects, with particular emphasis on complex financing transactions and the negotiation and drafting of large-scale construction contracts. He joins Gowling WLG from ACS Infrastructure Canada Inc., where he served as general counsel.

Platteel has worked closely with a range of public and private sector participants — including procurement agencies, developers, contractors, financial institutions, project entities and advisers — in bringing landmark infrastructure projects to fruition across the country and throughout North America.

“As we continue to grow our P3/infrastructure practice, Mark is the perfect addition to our group. He has a proven track record of helping infrastructure firms successfully pitch and win large-scale projects, work with consortium parties and then manage and overcome the various challenges they face,” said Ted Betts, Toronto partner and head of Gowling WLG’s infrastructure and construction group.
