Proposed legislation to boost consumer protection for new homebuyers

The Ontario new home warranties plan has been in effect for more than 40 years. Under the Ontario New Home Warranties Plan Act, the government designated Tarion Warranty Corporation as the entity authorized to administer the warranties plan. Currently, as set out in the act, Tarion has two major and distinct functions (i) to provide a construction warranty with respect to every home to be constructed in the province (ii) to register every builder or vendor of a home not previously occupied.
