Government holding ‘overdue’ consultations on federal labour standards

The government of Canada is holding public consultations on modernizing federal labour standards, a step an expert in labour law said is “quite overdue” and could have an effect on the whole Canadian economy.

As outlined in Part III of the Canada Labour Code, federal labour standards deal with such issues as hours of work, wages and leaves for employees in federally regulated industries, which include banking, telecommunications and transportation.
