New Toronto tax partner, associate for Bennett Jones

Bennett Jones announced that new partner James Morand and associate John Brao have joined the firm’s Toronto office.

According to the firm’s press release, Morand is a corporate tax lawyer with 30 years of experience in mergers and acquisitions (M&A), financing, restructuring and dispute resolution.

His most recent experience involves significant cross-border M&A transactions in the cannabis sector.

Morand was previously chair of the taxation group at a national Canadian law firm.

Brao’s practice focuses on corporate and commercial matters, domestic and cross-border private and public company M&A, and securities-related matters.

As a graduate of Osgoode Hall Law School, Brao spent a semester abroad in London, studying corporate/commercial law at Queen Mary University of London. Prior to joining Bennett Jones as an associate, Brao articled at a boutique litigation firm and later worked for a full service firm, where he gained experience in a variety of corporate practice areas.

Brao is a member of the Canadian Bar Association and the Ontario Bar Association and is also a registered notary public.
